For eight months, Biostatistics PhD student Natalie Gasca traveled solo through Latin America and Asia, exploring small communities, connecting with people and learning about their local culture. She expected the trip to be a life-changing experience but could not have foreseen the impact it would have on her personal, academic and career perspectives.
MS student Marlena Bannick always knew she wanted to work in a field where she could positively impact the health of populations, though she wasn't sure what the best fit would be. But once she took her first biostatistics course as an undergrad at UW, she was hooked.
