Our Graduates

We're proud of our alumni, many who have gone on to take positions of leadership in academia, research, government, and private industry.

Kelsey Grinde

Kelsey Grinde, PhD ’19

Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, Macalester College

Kelsey's research interests fall broadly between statistical genetics and multiple testing, with the end goal of using large genetic datasets to answer questions about human disease and population history. She received a number of awards throughout her academic career including the 2019 Thomas R. Fleming Excellence in Biostatistics Award for high academic achievement and leadership and the Dorothy L. Simpson Leadership Award that recognized her work in outreach, teaching and mentoring.

Yichen Zhang, MS Thesis ’18

PhD Student, University of British Columbia

Yichen landed an internship with NanoString the summer after his first year which led to a permanent position that he held while completing his degree. His advice to prospective students: “When considering a biostatistics program, besides the rigor of coursework and expertise of faculty, I would consider what students do when they graduate from the program as an important factor. Our alumni are playing important roles both in academia and industry.”
