About

50 Years of Excellence

UW Biostatistics is renowned for the quality of its research and training. Our graduates have gone on to lead, teach, and develop solutions that improve lives and our reputation continues to draw outstanding junior faculty.

But unprecedented disinvestment in higher education and scientific research threatens to erode this 50-year legacy.

Our graduate program—the cornerstone of our future—is in jeopardy and our junior faculty face alarming funding prospects.

Of the 528 PhD applications received this year, the department was only allowed to admit three students, the smallest cohort in recent memory. The pressures from federal and state budget cuts are hitting our PhD students and early career faculty especially hard.

New talent in the field will be lost and breakthroughs in biostatistical science will inevitably be delayed if we do not act.

Your gift today will help us face these challenges and sustain our excellence in biostatistics.
