About

Dr. Pepe's areas of research include evaluation of tests and biomarkers for disease screening, diagnosis, prognosis and risk prediction. In addition, she has a long record of collaborative research through the Biostatistics Shared Resource at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, through the Early Detection Research Network (EDRN) and previously through the General Clinical Research Center at the University of Washington. Dr Pepe is widely recognized as an international expert in the area of diagnostic test evaluation. She has written a text book on statistical methods (Pepe 2003), and has given invited short courses at venues including the FDA, the Joint Statistical Meetings and the International Biometrics Society. She is principal investigator on an NIH sponsored RO1 grant to develop new statistical methods for biomarker evaluation, that is currently in its 18th year of funding. She is currently a multi-PI of the Data Management and Coordinating Center for the EDRN. Through her work with the EDRN, she has established herself as a leader in biomarker evaluation. In collaboration with Dr Feng and other EDRN members she defined a phased approach to biomarker development in 2001 and the prototype study design for biomarker evaluation in 2008, both of which have been strongly endorsed by NCI.
