
Peter Gilbert, a professor of biostatistics at the University of Washington School of Public Health and a researcher at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center, is the 2025 recipient of the Marvin Zelen Leadership Award in Statistical Science.
Gilbert was recognized for his contributions to clinical trial design and statistical methodologies in medical research as well as his leadership.
“He leads by example, guiding research teams, mentoring future scientists, and contributing to the design of clinical trials that have a direct impact on global health. His influence reaches across the academic, research, and policy-making sectors, establishing him as a key figure in the ongoing fight against infectious diseases,” according to the award announcement.
Gilbert received the award and presented a lecture on May 1 at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Established in honor of Marvin Zelen, a professor of biostatistics at Harvard, the award recognizes an individual in government, industry, or academia, who by virtue of their outstanding leadership, has greatly impacted the theory and practice of statistical science.
