Second-year PhD student Awan Afiaz was honored with a Dean’s Merit Award by the Faculty of Science, University of Dhaka for completing his Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics with a perfect GPA (4.0 on a scale of 4.0). He is the first student from the university’s Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT) to receive the honor.
Due to delays caused by COVID restrictions, the award was presented 18 months after Afiaz received his degree.
“I am incredibly honored to be the recipient of such a prestigious award from my alma mater. Unfortunately, neither I nor my parents could be present at the ceremony to receive the award, and I was really sad about it. However, this is a great privilege and undoubtedly will strengthen my motivation to do even better in my current PhD journey at the University of Washington,” said Afiaz.
