On April 8, a small group from Biostat volunteered their time at FareStart, a non-profit that helps people in poverty overcome barriers to getting and keeping a job.  The organization teaches work and life skills needed to succeed in the food service industry, and provides meals to social services, shelters and schools in the Seattle area.

The event was coordinated by members of the Faculty/Student Relations Committee who are planning to coordinate more group volunteer sessions in the near future.

Volunteering for FareStart was an idea suggested to the committee by faculty member Mary Lou Thompson.  The group volunteered for kitchen prep and helped prepare meals for people in need.
