UW professor Daniela Witten has been named a 2018 Simons Investigator in Mathematical Modeling of Living Systems by the Simons Foundation’s Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences and Division of Life Sciences
Congratulations to the four UW Biostatistics students who received honors at the 2018 WNAR student paper competition. WNAR is the Western North American Region (WNAR) of The International Biometric Society which sponsors an annual student paper competition as part of the organization’s annual scientific meeting.
Jonathan Fintzi, a PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics won the oral competition for the 2016 Western North American Region of The International Biometric Society Student Paper Competition. Joshua Keller, also a PhD student in biostatistics at the School, was runner-up for the competition’s written category.
Dr. Ethel Gilbert, former UW faculty member in departments of Biostatistics and Biomathematics has received the prestigious Gold Medal for Radiation Protection conferred by the Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Patrick J. Heagerty, University of Washington Professor and Gilbert S. Omenn Endowed Chair in Biostatistics, has been inducted into the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Society of Scholars. The society recognizes former Johns Hopkins students, faculty and staff who have made outstanding contributions to their fields since leaving the university. Heagerty earned his PhD at JHU.

Bruce Weir, PhD, of the University of Washington in Seattle is the recipient of the 2019 Genetics Society of America (GSA) Elizabeth W. Jones Award for Excellence in Education, in recognition of his work training thousands of researchers in the rigorous use of statistical analysis methods for genetic and genomic data.
