Collaborations

Faculty in the Department of Biostatistics collaborate with scientific colleagues in hundreds of different areas of medical and biological research.

The Department of Biostatistics is privileged to be part of a large and dynamic community of statisticians and biostatisticians in Seattle. Our faculty members collaborate with scientific colleagues in hundreds of different areas of medical and biological research. We have a strong collaborative partnership with the UW Department of Statistics, and work closely with faculty in departments in the UW School of Public Health and the UW School of Medicine. Other colleagues are at the nearby Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in its Public Health Sciences Division, the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and the Group Health Research Institute.

Affiliate Organizations

Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (UW ADRC)

The goals of the UW Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (UWADRC).  DMS Core provides UWADRC investigators with database and statistical expertise both in the initial project design phase of studies and in later stages, when investigators are preparing manuscripts and performing statistical analyses and interpretations. The activities of DMS Core members facilitate the overall goals of the UW ADRC, particularly in its aim to reduce the burden of Alzheimer’s disease.

Center for Ecogenetics and Environmental Health (CEEH)

The Center for Ecogentics and Environmental Health (CEEH) strives to understand and communicate how genetic factors influence human susceptibility to environmental health risks. CEEH fosters collaborations between investigators working in toxicology, molecular biology, genetics, and environmental epidemiology to understand and communicate how genetic factors influence human susceptibility to environmental health risks.  The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Facility Core unit in CEEH designs microarray studies in collaboration with investigators and provides comprehensive data management and analysis.

Center for Statistical Consulting (CSC)

The Center for Statistical Consulting is a University of Washington approved cost center located administratively in the Department of Statistics. Faculty and graduate students from the departments of Biostatistics and Statistics offer free consulting services through this center.

Northwest PRECEDENT

Operated jointly by the University of Washington and Oregon Health & Science University, Northwest PRECEDENT was created as one of three Dental Practice-Based Research Networks nationwide. These networks are focused on studying the practical issues facing dentists and their patients, and providing information that will improve the quality of oral health care as a whole.

Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research & Prevention (SCHARP)

SCHARP provides statistical collaboration to HIV/AIDS researchers around the world and conducts a complementary program of statistical methodology and mathematical modeling research. SCHARP also collects, manages, and analyzes data from clinical trials and epidemiological studies dedicated to the elimination of HIV/AIDS as a threat to human health.

University of Washington DISCOVER Center

DISCOVER Center projects investigate the mechanistic relationship between cardiovascular disease and traffic-related air pollution.

Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute (VIDI)

The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute develops and implements prevention strategies for globally important infectious diseases, including HIV, malaria, and the viruses and bacteria that can result in cancer.
