I am currently working with Scott Emerson, M.D., Ph.D., on research with adaptive clinical trials in time-to-event settings. In particular, we are examining how the operating characteristics of clinical trials might be adversely affected by partial knowledge of surrogate outcomes when adapting the sequential sampling plan to unblinded interim results. After exploring via simulation what combinations of factors contribute to deviations from desired operating characteristics, we hope to develop analytical methods that attenuate these deviations by accounting for information on surrogate outcomes.
