Conference on Statistical Methods in Epidemiology and Observational Studies

The Department of Biostatistics of the University of Washington is pleased to present a one-day conference on "Statistical Methods for Emerging Issues in Observational Studies and Epidemiology," in honor of Norman E. Breslow. The conference will take place on Friday, August 4, 2006 at Kane Hall (Room 120) on the University of Washington campus in Seattle, Washington, USA.

The 2006 JSM will be held in Seattle between August 6 and 10. The Breslow conference has been arranged right before the 2006 JSM so participatants may conveniently stay for the JSM.

The conference features individual presentations and panel discussions by a distinguished group of researchers engaged in statistical methods in epidemiology and observational studies. It will provide an overview of the historical developments and current status of the field, and will provide a platform to discuss emerging issues and future research directions.

The Department of Biostatistics of the University of Washington has established the Norman E. Breslow Distinguished Lectureship to honor the instrumental scientific contributions of Norman E. Breslow. The Lectureship is awarded annually to an individual who has made important scholarly contributions to the advancement of biostatistical methodology and its applications in the health sciences. The recipient will deliver a public lecture at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine of the University of Washington. The lectureship includes travel to Seattle, a citation and a modest honorarium.

The Department of Biostatistics of the University of Washington is pleased to announce that Dr. Mitchell H. Gail, Chief of the Biostatistics Branch of the National Cancer Institute, has been named as the recipient of the first Breslow Distinguished Lectureship. (To see Mitch's biography, click here.)
